Yap, Micronesia

(2014 - 2015)

I visited Micronesia, island of Yap. back in 2014. I won this trip in a photocontest WorldShootOut, where I won third place in the amateur category (with my Canon G15 camera and natural light).

My plan was to spend two weeks in Yap and then continue to Indonesia to take a new job. But the Destiny changed my plans; I met a guy in Micronesia and we changed our lives and travelling plans. For almost a year, Yap became my second home, we spent our time between there and travelling the world.

Life in Yap is slow and very simple, but it very much touched by American life style. Meeting topless women and locally dressed men in the supermarket, where everyone speaks perfect American- English and dollar is the only currency, was normal everyday adventures.

Yap still shows people the authentic culture, mainly at Yap Days and another events, but to visit proper Yapese village, you have to show your respect and keep tradition. Yapese people are very open, but they let you feel you are a foreigner in their island.

Time spent in Yap was shared between diving (the main attraction are sharks and mantas) and discovering the tiny island.
